Media, Pennsylvania, Repetitive Trauma Attorneys
Repetitive strain injuries occur frequently in the workplace. In fact, carpal tunnel syndrome alone strikes 10 percent of Americans over the course of their lifetimes.
Repetitive strain injuries are invisible and can be difficult to document and prove. They can also result from cumulative action, as opposed to an easily identified onetime accident, which increases the difficulty of filing a successful workers' compensation claim.
At Kenneth R. Schuster & Associates, P.C., we have helped numerous clients successfully recover lost wages, medical bill payments and other expenses caused by repetitive trauma.
Examples of repetitive strain injury medical issues include:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS): Carpal tunnel syndrome results when the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, leading to pain and weakness in the forearm and hand. It is caused by repetitive grasping and manipulating activities which are most often performed by clerical workers and assembly-line workers. CTS also occurs in jobs involving repetitive packing and processing.
- Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS): This condition involves compression of the nerves and blood vessels below the neck and is often caused by lifting heavy objects. Symptoms include pain, burning, tingling and numbness between the neck and shoulder muscles; between the ribs and collarbone; and along the arms, hands and fingers. Victims often suffer from pale, weak, sensitive or bluish hands.
- Epicondylitis: This condition which most often results from hyperextension/overextension of the arm, can cause persistent pain and tenderness at the outer elbow. In the workplace, Epicondylitis is often caused by repeated lifting at the elbow and repeated movement at the wrist.
- Repetitive strain injuries often strike typists, assembly-line workers, product-packing employees, secretaries, computer/IT workers, data-entry technicians and other factory or clerical workers.
